America’s addiction to oil is fueling
climate change AND war.
Oil is one of the main causes of climate change.
Our addiction to greenhouse-gas-emitting oil is
melting the Arctic and Greenland before our eyes,
destroying Indigenous cultures and peoples. It is
disappearing small island nations as sea levels rise,
and it’s creating extreme climate events and super
storms like Hurricane Katrina around the world.
Oil was also themain factor that drove our country
into the Iraq war and will fuel future resource wars,
unless the U.S. ends its addiction. The Iraq war has
already led to the deaths of more than 3,200 US
troops and some half a million or more Iraqis.
Meanwhile, theUSmilitary is the largest single consumer
of petroleumin the country, so as themilitary
grows, so does our addiction to fossil fuels.
To end current and future oil wars and stop the
impending climate crisis, we need to take dramatic
steps to end the US addiction to oil and
other fossil fuels!
Here’sWhat You Can Do:
Speak Out to Congress About Climate Change ANDWar
Call your Representative and Senators and tell themyou want action!
Congress should cut off subsidies to oil and gas companies,
pass legislation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80%by 2050,
and require higher fuel efficiency standards and lower greenhouse
gas emissions from the auto industry. They should also bring the
US troops home from Iraq NOW, stop funding war, and instead
invest funds in public transportation and clean, renewable energy
sources. Congressional switchboard: 202-224-3121.
Jump-start Detroit – and Your Community
The transportation sector accounts for more than two-thirds of
all oil consumption in the U.S. But instead of giving us more
fuel-efficient vehicles, the US auto industry is driving in reverse.
To find out how to pressure the auto industry for change, see
www.freedomfromoil.com.We can also show automakers there’s
demand for clean, green vehicles by getting our communities
and campuses to commit to purchasing only the most fuel economic
cars and trucks available. Download a Greenfleets Packet

ConnectWith the Peace and JusticeMovement
There are hundreds of groups around the country working for
peace and opposing the ongoing U.S. military presence in Iraq.
Look at the “local contacts” section of the United For Peace and
Justice website (www.unitedforpeace.org) to locate the peace
groups in your community.Once you connect with a peace group,
you can get involved in lobbying your members of Congress, organizing
peace rallies, doing outreach and education about the reality
in Iraq, countering military recruiters, and participating in
other activities to end the war in Iraq and prevent future wars.
FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE, NOTWARS FOR OIL!

Greetings:

There is a great need for reentry programs for women. Women that have been previously incarcerated need housing, mentoring, and jobs in order to be successful. It is my passion to open a reentry program for women in Lancaster, PA.
