Rep. Joe Pitts E-newsletter - June 4, 2010

BP has murdered 11 Americans, destroyed tens of thousands of fisherman's jobs as well as the Gulf seafood industry, Gulf tourism, the families that have fished in the Gulf for generations, and restaurants. And Congressman Pitts wants to oppose green energy legislation because it would "destroy" jobs?

AAAAHHH!

Rep. Joe Pitts E-newsletter - June 4, 2010

"Oil Spill Not an Excuse to Tax All Energy
This week, President Obama delivered remarks illustrating the BP oil spill as a reason to pass additional energy taxes in the form of a cap and trade program. I opposed legislation passed in the House last year that could eliminate between 1.8 and 7 million jobs because of increased energy costs. The Senate may consider companion legislation this summer. While I believe that the gulf oil spill is a tragic event that BP deserves full responsibility for, I don’t think every American should see their energy bill go up because of the actions of one oil company. We need to evaluate government oversight of offshore drilling and ensure that rigs are safe for workers and the environment. The cap and trade legislation has little to do with the safety of offshore drilling, and would slow economic growth at a time when we need to create millions of jobs, not destroy them."
